Although great strides have been made in the fight against AIDS, military actions have not stopped massacre and mutilation committed by the LRA, a rebel army who sustains their numbers by kidnapping children and brainwashing them into their ranks. In the north, deemed unsafe for travel by the U.S. State Department, the rebel's actions have resulted in the death of over 1.6 million Ugandans, and the kidnapping of tens of thousands over the last two decades.
